Wendell Foster Half & 5K Approaches March 28

With race day less than a month away, runners across Owensboro are preparing for the seventh annual Wendell Foster Half Marathon & 5K, set for Saturday, March 28.

The event, presented by Owensboro Health, will begin at 7:00 a.m. (CT) in downtown Owensboro and feature a flat, fast course along the riverfront and through historic streets. The Half Marathon carries a 3-hour, 45-minute time limit.

Hosted by Wendell Foster, the race serves a larger mission — raising funds and awareness to empower individuals with disabilities to live full and meaningful lives. The event has grown into one of the region’s most inclusive races, offering divisions for runners, walkers, push-rim wheelchair athletes, duo teams using adaptive racing chairs, and Steps participants completing milestone step goals.

The Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and 5K (3.1 miles) both offer prize money to top overall finishers, including $750 for first-place male and female Half Marathon winners and $200 for 5K champions. Age group awards span from 12–15 through 75 and over and will be mailed once results are finalized.

With professional chip timing, designated corrals, aid stations, and road closures in place, organizers are preparing for another strong turnout as race weekend approaches. For many, March 28 won’t just be about pace — it will be about purpose.
