Hagan, Newby Lead Owensboro Catholic to Regional Finals With 75–48 Win Over Edmonson County

OWENSBORO — Behind dominant performances from Katie Hagan and Sophia Newby, Owensboro Catholic punched its ticket to the regional championship with a 75–48 victory over Edmonson County in the regional semifinals Friday night at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
Hagan led the way with a game-high 28 points, while Newby recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds as the Lady Aces controlled the game on both ends of the floor.
Owensboro Catholic trailed early after Edmonson County edged ahead 12–9 at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Aces quickly flipped the momentum in the second. Hagan erupted for 12 points in the quarter, helping Owensboro Catholic outscore Edmonson County 20–9 and take a 29–21 lead into halftime.
The Lady Aces continued to extend the advantage in the second half. Leading 58–38 late in the game, Owensboro Catholic went on a decisive 9–0 run to pull away and put the game out of reach.
Defense played a major role in the victory. Owensboro Catholic forced 28 turnovers and converted them into 21 points, fueled by an aggressive defensive effort that produced 22 steals and 11 blocked shots. Hagan led that charge with 10 steals.
The Lady Aces also moved the ball well offensively, finishing with 21 assists on 27 made baskets. Taylor Mannahan led the team with seven assists.
Several players contributed offensively alongside Hagan and Newby. Munsey finished with 13 points, Mannahan added nine, Riley scored six, and Martin chipped in four.
Owensboro Catholic also controlled the boards with 33 rebounds, including 16 offensive rebounds that created several second-chance opportunities.
With the win, the Lady Aces advance to the regional championship game as they look to capture the title.
