Panthers Shut Out Lady Mustangs Behind Strong Pitching

The Daviess County Varsity Panthers secured a 3-0 victory over the McCracken County Varsity Lady Mustangs on Friday, thanks to a combined shutout effort from pitchers S. Cain and S. Hume.

Cain got the start and set the tone early, going four innings while allowing just one hit and striking out two. Hume came on in relief for the final three innings, shutting down the Lady Mustangs with four strikeouts and no runs allowed. Hume induced a fly out from Brewer to seal the win. Overall, the Panthers’ pitching staff struck out six, while the Mustangs recorded four strikeouts against the opposing pitchers.

Daviess County jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Cain launched a two-run homer to left field, followed by an error that allowed an additional run to score. Cain finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs, and Newman also contributed two hits for the Panthers. Meanwhile, Jarboe added two stolen bases, highlighting the team’s aggressive base running.

The Panthers were solid defensively, turning a double play and committing no errors on the day, with Henry making seven defensive plays to anchor the infield.

McCracken County struggled to find traction at the plate. Butler, Lee, Walker, and Leidecker each managed a single, but the Lady Mustangs were unable to convert opportunities into runs. Leidecker took the loss, surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits over two innings.

With the win, Daviess County maintains momentum heading into their next matchup against Warren East on Saturday. The Panthers demonstrated a balanced performance, combining timely hitting, aggressive base running, and precise pitching to control the game from start to finish.
