Owensboro Courts Come Alive for Ballin’ in the Boro Tournament

Owensboro turned into a youth basketball hub this past weekend as players, families, and fans packed gyms across the city for the Puzzle Pieces Ballin’ in the Boro Tournament. With games running from early Saturday morning through late Sunday evening at Boys & Girls Club, Burns Middle, College View Middle, and Daviess County Middle, the energy was nonstop and contagious.

Crowds were thick in the stands, full of familiar faces cheering on local talent. Going from gym to gym, it was impossible not to notice the excitement, from squeaking sneakers and bouncing basketballs to the loud cheers echoing off the walls. Every court had players giving their all, showcasing skill, determination, and a love for the game that had everyone smiling.

The tournament brought together teams from Kentucky and Indiana, featuring boys and girls from 2nd grade through middle school. OBKY Gators teams were on multiple courts, alongside local favorites like Owensboro Catholic and Daviess County, as well as regional squads such as Bluegrass Storm and TSI. The mix of local and regional talent made for competitive matchups all weekend.

But Ballin’ in the Boro is more than just basketball. Proceeds from the tournament support Puzzle Pieces, a local nonprofit serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Every play contributed to raising awareness and promoting inclusion during Disability Awareness Month, making each point, pass, and shot count beyond the scoreboard.

For families and fans, the weekend was about more than just the games. It was about celebrating the community, reconnecting with friends, and watching Owensboro’s youth athletes shine. From high-flying layups to buzzer-beaters, the tournament was a showcase of talent, energy, and local pride.

With the gyms buzzing and the city rallying behind its young athletes, Ballin’ in the Boro 2026 was a resounding success, leaving everyone looking forward to next year’s weekend of hoops, camaraderie, and community spirit.
