Run for Foxy Roxie Draws Strong Crowd to Downtown Owensboro

A beautiful morning along the riverfront set the stage for the 4th annual Run for Foxy Roxie on Saturday in downtown Owensboro.

Participants gathered at Smothers Park for a morning of fitness, remembrance, and community support. The event featured a 5K race, a 1-mile walk/run, and a Kids Dash that attracted a large number of young participants eager to cross the finish line.

The Run for Foxy Roxie was created to honor the memory of Roxanne “Foxy Roxie” Pickrell, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 13 after a battle with brain cancer. Through the Roxanne Pickrell Memorial Fund, the event continues to support local causes and organizations throughout the Owensboro community.

This year’s race started and finished along the downtown riverfront, with runners making their way through portions of the city before returning to the finish line. Following the races, participants gathered for the awards ceremony as organizers recognized top finishers and celebrated another successful event.

The overall male winners in the 5K were:
1. Austin Cavender (27) – 18:34
2. Maurice Hanley (30) – 20:36
3. Phillip Page (45) – 21:44

The overall female winners were:
1. Jennifer Tomblinson (52) – 28:02
2. Kay Peach (50) – 28:46
3. Krystal Williams (38) – 29:10

One of the highlights of the morning was the Kids Dash, which saw a strong turnout and plenty of excitement from the youngest participants.

Event organizer Cathy Pickrell welcomed participants and supporters throughout the morning. Her dedication to honoring Roxie’s memory while helping local organizations continues to make the event a meaningful tradition in Owensboro.

Proceeds from this year’s race will benefit the Owensboro Fire Department Hose Handlers as they prepare for the upcoming Puzzle Pieces Lip Sync Battle.

With favorable weather, strong participation, and a positive atmosphere from start to finish, the 2026 Run for Foxy Roxie once again proved to be a successful community event on the Owensboro riverfront.
