Owensboro Opens District Play With 6-0 Win Over Apollo

 

OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro High School opened district play with a convincing 6-0 victory over Apollo Thursday night at the Owensboro High School Athletic Complex, adding another strong result to an already impressive start.

The Devils entered the matchup with just one loss through their first eight games. After Thursday’s win, Owensboro moves to 8-1-0 on the season.

At the center of the offense was Peter Mbayo, who turned in a four-point performance with three goals and an assist. His three-goal night accounted for half of Owensboro’s scoring and helped the Devils establish control of the match.

Patrick Alexander added two goals for Owensboro, while Japheti Bavento also found the net. Brian Payne, Bilombele Ekyochi and Adrion Perez each recorded an assist.

For Apollo, the loss moves the Eagles to 4-5-1. The Eagles will have a quick opportunity to respond when they travel to Meade County on Saturday.

Owensboro’s district schedule continues with a trip to Greenwood on Monday, Sept. 8.
