OWENSBORO, KY — Apollo bounced back after dropping the opening set Tuesday night, winning three straight to defeat Owensboro 3-1 at Henderson County High School Main Gym.

Owensboro took the first set 25-19, but Apollo answered in the second set with a 25-19 win to even the match.

The E-Gals carried that response into the third set, again winning 25-19, before closing out the match with a 25-17 victory in the fourth.

Avery Gray led Apollo with 19 kills and four aces. Savannah Denson added 11 kills and three blocks, while Keelan Wettstain finished with 10 kills, one block and two aces.

Maddi Roberts directed the offense with 40 assists. Jessie Pate led Apollo defensively with 20 digs, while Lyla Fortener had 13, Gray added 11 and Wettstain recorded eight.

Kinsley Jackson contributed two kills and one block, while Ali Lawson had three blocks and Roberts added one block. Sophia Mason also recorded two aces.

The win moves Apollo to 19-1 on the season. Owensboro falls to 9-8.

Apollo will return to action Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m. against Nelson County at the Allen County-Scottsville High School The Cube. Owensboro will host Warren East Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Owensboro High School North Gym.
