SCOTTSVILLE, KY — Apollo put together four straight wins at the SOKY Slam before Ashland Blazer ended the run in the Gold Division championship match, leaving the E-gals with a runner-up finish and a 23-2 record heading into the final week of September.

Apollo opened the tournament with three consecutive sweeps, beating Nelson County 25-14, 25-15, Allen County-Scottsville 25-10, 25-13 and Franklin-Simpson 25-7, 25-14.

The E-gals faced their toughest test of the opening rounds against Logan County. Apollo took the first set 25-16, dropped the second 25-22, then closed out the match with a 15-8 victory in the deciding set.

That sent Apollo into the Gold Division championship against Ashland Blazer.

Ashland took the opening set 25-20 and followed with a 25-19 win to hand Apollo its second loss of the season.

Even with the championship match loss, Apollo’s offensive production was strong throughout the tournament.

Avery Gray led the way with 61 kills and added four blocks. Keelan Wettstain finished with 21 kills and three blocks, while Savannah Denson had 13 kills and four blocks. Ali Lawson added 11 kills and two blocks, and Kinsley Jackson contributed 11 kills and two blocks.

Maddi Roberts directed the offense from the setter position, finishing with 106 assists across the five matches.

Apollo also received steady play in serve receive and defense. Jessie Pate led the team with 58 digs, while Wettstain recorded 23. Gray and Lyla Fortener each had 15 digs, with Roberts adding 11.

From the service line, Wettstain led Apollo with nine aces. Roberts had six, Pate five and Gray four. Lyla Fortener added three, while Addy Kirby finished with two.

Apollo now returns home with a 23-2 record and will turn its attention to Daviess County for its next match.
