OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro put together a competitive 90 minutes Monday night against University Heights, but a second-half goal off a corner kick gave the visiting Blazers a 2-1 victory at the Owensboro High School Athletic Complex.

University Heights struck first in the opening half, finding the net in the 23rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Owensboro answered after halftime.

Ella Hall set up Alexandra Cecil for the Red Devils’ goal, bringing the match level at 1-1 and giving Owensboro a chance to take control of the game.

University Heights responded later in the half, scoring off a corner kick to regain the lead.

Owensboro continued to push for another equalizer, with Lily Nieman creating three shots on goal. Hall and Amelia Calhoun each put another shot on target as the Red Devils finished with five shots on goal.

Hayley Sikes kept Owensboro in the match with 10 saves, including several stops that kept the deficit at one. University Heights finished with nine shots on goal.

Kate Lynn Gibson and Amoree Owen both recorded points for University Heights in the win.

Owensboro moves to 8-6-2 on the season and will travel to Ohio County Tuesday night.
