City-County Cross Country Championship Brings Local Rivals to Yellow Creek Park

OWENSBORO, KY — Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic split the team championships at the 2026 Owensboro City-County High School Cross Country Championship on Thursday at Yellow Creek Park, while Apollo freshman Addy Alvey and Daviess County senior Judson Redfern claimed the individual titles.
Daviess County captured the boys team championship with 23 points, placing five runners in the top seven. Apollo finished second with 52 points, followed by Owensboro Catholic with 82, Owensboro with 94 and Trinity (Whitesville) with 135.
On the girls side, Owensboro Catholic took the team title with 20 points, placing five runners in the top six. Apollo finished second with 41 points.
Alvey Leads Girls Race
Apollo freshman Addy Alvey won the girls 5,000-meter race in 18:01.24, finishing more than a minute ahead of the next runner. Owensboro Catholic senior Peyton Reid placed second in 19:09.31, followed by teammate Ainsley Sutter in 19:59.40.
Owensboro Catholic continued its strong team performance with Anna Booker fourth in 20:09.15 and Caroline Wathen fifth in 20:19.45. Freshman Charlie Reid finished sixth in 20:26.44 to complete the team’s five scoring positions.
Apollo’s second runner, freshman Stella Clark, placed eighth in 20:45.69. Avery Boarman finished 14th in 21:42.83, followed by Lola Falloway in 15th at 21:46.49. Eighth-grader Lily Shoulta placed 17th in 22:04.98, and freshman Lydia Martin took 20th in 22:42.51.
Those five finishes gave Apollo the second-place team result behind Owensboro Catholic.
Redfern Leads Daviess County Boys
Daviess County senior Judson Redfern won the boys 5,000-meter race in 16:12.17, establishing a decisive lead over the field. Apollo freshman Axton Alvey finished second in 16:40.83, while Owensboro Catholic senior Owen Brey placed third in 16:51.67.
Daviess County’s depth proved decisive in the team standings. Landon Thompson finished fourth in 16:52.64, Joseph Edge placed fifth in 17:17.47, Bronson Duke took sixth in 17:18.79 and Jordan Norris finished seventh in 17:22.69. Jonah Murphy and Joseph Cecil followed in eighth and ninth, giving Daviess County seven runners among the top nine finishers.
Apollo secured second place with Dylan Rhodes in 10th at 17:34.39, William Guadarrama in 13th at 17:42.60 and Graham Kunze in 14th at 17:54.72. Caden Besecker finished 17th in 18:14.53, and Colton Bivins placed 18th in 18:26.40.
Owensboro’s Caleb Hayden was the team’s top finisher, placing 12th in 17:39.23. Harrison Short finished 15th in 18:08.54, while Mark Whitaker took 25th in 18:56.96.
Owensboro Catholic’s Brey led the team’s third-place finish. Simon Thompson placed 19th in 18:28.02, followed by Jack Haines in 22nd at 18:36.34 and John Wathen in 23rd at 18:39.97.
Trinity (Whitesville) was led by Ehan Jarboe, who finished 34th in 20:04.08, and eighth-grader Luke Howard, who placed 35th in 20:07.22.
