OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro Catholic controlled the attacking end for much of Saturday’s District 9 Girls Soccer Tournament matchup, building a first-half lead before finishing off a 6-0 shutout of Apollo at Apollo High School.

The Lady Aces struck three times in the opening half, repeatedly putting pressure on Apollo goalkeeper Abygail Alvarez, who finished with 37 saves despite the six goals allowed.

Allie Marston opened the scoring with 22:58 in the first half. Owensboro Catholic extended its advantage when Meredith Traylor scored with 13:18, assisted by Anabelle Hancock.

Hancock added a goal of her own with 3:25 before halftime, finishing a play set up by Lila Helwig to give Owensboro Catholic a three-goal cushion.

Apollo had a pair of promising attacking sequences in the closing minutes of the half, pushing the ball toward goal and drawing a reaction from the crowd, but could not convert either opportunity.

Owensboro Catholic continued its attack after the break. Johanna Cox scored with 36:14 in the second half, with Baily Quinn providing the assist.

Quinn later found the net herself, assisted by Marston, before Makenna Moss added another goal to complete the 6-0 result.

Owensboro Catholic spread its scoring across six players. Marston, Hancock and Quinn each recorded a goal and an assist, while Traylor, Cox and Moss also scored. Helwig finished with an assist.

Apollo’s Alvarez made 37 saves, keeping the goalkeeper busy throughout the match as Owensboro Catholic generated sustained pressure. Owensboro Catholic goalkeepers Felicity Payne and Annabelle Kirkland combined for the shutout, recording three saves.
