OWENSBORO, KY — Daviess County opened its regional tournament Saturday night with an 8-0 victory over Butler County at Reid Stadium, spreading the scoring across eight goals to move into Tuesday’s regional semifinal against Ohio County.

The Panthers established control early, with Carter Dearmond opening the scoring in the eighth minute. Ethan Dailey delivered a cross from the left side, finding Dearmond to put Daviess County in front.

Dailey doubled the lead in the 26th minute, striking from approximately 20 yards out and sending the ball past the goalkeeper. The senior attack continued late in the half when Kash Lanham recorded his first varsity assist, playing a forward ball to Dearmond, who finished far post in the 38th minute to make it 3-0.

Despite the three-goal advantage at halftime, Daviess County acknowledged that its first-half performance left room for improvement. Multiple offsides calls disrupted the Panthers’ attack, and the team looked to improve its possession and execution in the final third after the break.

The Panthers added to their lead just three minutes into the second half. Silas Goebel played the ball inside the six-yard box to a charging Avery Dilger, who scored his first goal of the season in the 43rd minute.

Dailey recorded his second assist of the night in the 54th minute, setting up Brayden Thomason to make it 5-0. Five minutes later, Mack Burton played a through ball to Goebel, who scored his 25th career goal and pushed the advantage to six.

Atley Thompson added another in the 75th minute, firing a shot from just outside the penalty area for his fifth career goal. Brody Fox completed the scoring in the 80th minute, bending a free kick around the wall for his first varsity goal and the Panthers’ eighth of the night.

The win sends Daviess County into Tuesday’s regional semifinal against Ohio County. The Panthers will look to build on the result while tightening their possession and attacking execution as the regional tournament continues.
