Apollo Rolls Past Hancock County, Advances to 3rd Region Championship Game Against Daviess County
Apollo punched its ticket to the next round of the 3rd Region Tournament on Tuesday with a dominant 13-0 win over Hancock County.
The Eagles controlled the game from the start and exploded offensively with 15 hits, including six runs in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth to end the game early.
Apollo first broke through in the second inning when Hannah Holder stole home to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Tyler Hall extended the advantage in the third with an RBI double to center field.
The Eagles put the game away in the fourth inning. Arianna Ramirez delivered the biggest hit of the night with a three-run home run to center field, while Hall and Liza Page each added RBI hits during the six-run frame.
Apollo continued the pressure in the fifth inning behind RBI singles from Keelan Wettstain, Hall, and Page. Holder added another sacrifice fly as the Eagles stretched the lead to 13-0.
Hall led Apollo at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with multiple doubles and three RBIs. Wettstain, Page, and Emersyn Bullington each recorded multiple hits in the win.
Inside the circle, Mollie Julian was dominant, allowing just two hits across four scoreless innings while striking out three. Apollo’s defense also played clean softball, finishing the game without committing an error.
One of the more exciting moments came during a rundown between third base and home involving Holder, helping keep the Eagles’ aggressive baserunning pressure on Hancock County throughout the game.
With the win, Apollo advances to tonight’s 3rd Region championship game against Daviess County. The winner will earn a trip to the KHSAA State Tournament.
