OWENSBORO, KY — Apollo stayed unbeaten in district play Tuesday night, sweeping Daviess County 25-15, 25-23, 25-14 at the Daviess County High School Gym.

The Eagles entered the night at 23-2 and left with their 24th win of the season, while Daviess County dropped to 15-9.

Avery Gray led Apollo’s attack with 13 kills, followed by Keelan Wettstain with seven and Savannah Denson with five. Ali Lawson added three kills, while Kinsley Jackson had one.

Maddi Roberts directed the Apollo offense with 29 assists. Keelan Wettstain recorded two aces, while Jessie Pate had three, Maddi Roberts one and Gray two.

Pate also made history during the match, setting new Apollo program records for both career digs and career aces.

The junior surpassed the previous school record of 1,385 career digs set by Ryanne Purcell in 2013. Pate also moved past Jordan Coomes’ Apollo record of 216 career aces, established in 2015.

Pate finished Tuesday’s match with 19 digs, leading Apollo’s defensive effort. Wettstain added 15 digs, while Gray and Lyla Fortner each had five.

Daviess County was led offensively by Kallie Stanley, who recorded 11 kills, while Reese Whiteside added nine and Maya Pollard finished with four.

Whiteside also recorded 11 blocks, with Stanley adding three and Maddie Chinn five. Jones led the Panthers with 20 digs, while Kyndal Murphy had 10.

The sweep keeps Apollo rolling at 24-2 on the season. Daviess County moves to 15-9.

Daviess County will host Butler County Thursday at 7 p.m. Apollo will compete in the Lady Colonel Volleyball Classic on Oct. 2-3 at Henderson County North Middle School.
