Apollo Varsity Eagles Outlast Muhlenberg County Mustangs 6–2

MARSHALL COUNTY — Apollo’s bats came alive at the right moments Friday, carrying the Eagles to a 6–2 victory over the Muhlenberg County Mustangs at Marshall County High School.
Apollo jumped on the board early, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning. Logan singled down the left-field line, followed by a run-scoring line out by Milburn. A misplay in the outfield allowed the Eagles to extend their early lead, giving them momentum they never relinquished.
The Eagles tacked on additional runs in the third inning, highlighted by a single from Lillpop and a timely ground out by Milburn, pushing the score to 5–0. Apollo’s bullpen shut down the Mustangs the rest of the way, with Carder earning the win, pitching a scoreless inning, while Gilbert, Pate, Logsdon, Richeson, James, Kopczynski, and Logan combined to hold Muhlenberg County to just two runs over the final eight innings.
Muhlenberg County tried to rally late, scoring a run in the ninth on a steal of home, but Apollo’s defense remained sharp and closed out the game. The Mustangs managed just six hits and struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Logan led the Eagles at the plate with two hits in three at-bats and drove in a run. Milburn and Richeson each added an RBI, while Apollo drew six walks to maintain pressure on the Mustangs. On the pitching side, Carder, Gilbert, and the relief corps combined for a dominant performance, allowing only two earned runs while striking out multiple batters in key moments.
Apollo improves to 3–1 on the season and will host McCracken County in their next game Thursday, looking to keep their hot start going.
