OWENSBORO, KY — Daviess County turned the Elliott Wells Classic into a full-day celebration with a pair of convincing victories Saturday, scoring 10 goals across two games at Deer Park Elementary Field.

The Panthers opened the day with a 6-2 win over Greenwood before returning to the field Saturday night and shutting out Webster County 4-0 to finish the event at 2-0.

Against Greenwood, Daviess County jumped out quickly. Mack Burton scored in the second minute off a 15th varsity assist from Ethan Dailey to put the Panthers ahead 1-0.

Avery Dilger then delivered a corner that Brayden Thomason headed home in the 31st minute. Greenwood answered three minutes later, but Daviess County responded almost immediately when Graham Robinson set up Thomason for his second goal of the day in the 35th minute.

Greenwood cut the lead to 3-2 early in the second half, but the Panthers took control from there.

Carter Houk finished a Dailey corner in the 46th minute, and Graham Robinson added another goal seven minutes later after receiving a pass from Silas Goebel.

Daviess County capped the scoring when Dilger’s corner found Ryder Clark, who headed home his first varsity goal in the game.

The Panthers then returned Saturday evening for their matchup with Webster County.

The first half was scoreless, but Daviess County came out with a completely different pace after halftime.

Goebel assisted Houk on the opening goal in the 41st minute, then Ethan Dailey set up Austin Spurrier for his first varsity goal in the 45th minute.

Goebel added a goal of his own two minutes later, reaching 20 career varsity goals, before recording his third assist of the game when he found Robinson for the final goal in the 49th minute.

After scoring six goals in the morning and four more at night, Daviess County closed the Elliott Wells Classic with back-to-back wins and improved to 9-3-2.

The event honored the memory of Elliott Wells, with Daviess County hosting Greenwood, Ohio County and Webster County throughout the day’s schedule.
