OWENSBORO, KY — Filip Smekal scored four goals Thursday night as Owensboro extended its strong season with a 6-0 victory over North Hardin.
Smekal was the centerpiece of Owensboro’s attack, finding the net four times and adding an assist for a nine-point night. His four goals matched half of the team’s six-goal total and gave the Red Devils a dominant offensive performance from start to finish.
Peter Mbayo added a goal and two assists, while Adrion Perez scored once. Patrick Alexander, Avidael Diaz Mazariegos and Japheti Bavento each recorded an assist, giving Owensboro six goals and six assists on the night.
The result was another strong showing for a Red Devils team that has been one of the area’s top programs throughout the season. Owensboro improved to 16-1-1 with the victory, continuing a season that has included just one loss and now moves into its final stretch.
The win also adds another chapter to what has already been a memorable season for Owensboro soccer. Mbayo recently became the program’s all-time leading scorer with 72 career goals, surpassing Scott Pulliam’s previous record of 70 set in 1989.
With the regular season winding down, Owensboro will look to carry its momentum into another road matchup Saturday.
The Red Devils will travel to Murray for a 10 a.m. match at the Mallary France Soccer Complex.
