Owensboro Introduces Bluegrass Fieldhouse Ahead of Summer Opening

Owensboro officials have officially announced the name and branding of the city’s long-awaited indoor sports complex: Bluegrass Fieldhouse. The announcement marks a major milestone for the project, which remains on track to open later this summer near the Owensboro Convention Center.

Designed to strengthen Owensboro’s growing reputation as a sports tourism destination, Bluegrass Fieldhouse will provide a large, flexible indoor venue capable of hosting a wide variety of events. The approximately 88,000-square-foot facility will feature seven full basketball courts that can be reconfigured into 14 volleyball courts, along with space for cheerleading, pickleball, archery, cornhole, and other indoor competitions.

City leaders say the name reflects both regional pride and the building’s purpose. “Bluegrass” highlights Kentucky’s identity while also nodding to Owensboro’s recognition as the Bluegrass Music Capital of the World. The term “Fieldhouse” was selected for its strong association with iconic sports venues across the country, reinforcing the facility’s role as a premier athletic destination.

The facility’s logo and branding were developed to align with existing city imagery while still giving the Fieldhouse a distinct identity. Design elements such as the Owensboro bridge and star accents were intentionally included to create instant recognition and flexibility throughout the building.

Construction progress continues to move forward steadily. City officials report that the building’s exterior is coming together, with work soon shifting to interior elements such as court surfaces, mechanical systems, and finishing details. Favorable weather and strong contractor performance have helped keep the project on schedule.

Once open, Bluegrass Fieldhouse is expected to play a significant role in Owensboro’s economic development efforts. Thousands of athletes and visitors are projected to attend events annually, bringing increased business to local hotels, restaurants, and retailers. City leaders believe the facility will allow Owensboro to expand its sports tourism footprint year-round, building on decades of success with outdoor tournaments and athletic events.

The venue will be managed by OVG360, the same group that oversees the Owensboro Convention Center and Sportscenter. Officials say this continuity will ensure a smooth transition and a high standard of event management.

Additional announcements regarding programming and events at Bluegrass Fieldhouse are expected as construction continues toward its anticipated summer debut.
