Owensboro Red Devils Fall to Grayson County Cougars 58–53

On a night centered around a historic milestone, the Owensboro Lady Devils battled until the final possession but came up short in a 58–53 loss to Grayson County on Tuesday at Owensboro High School.
The game stayed tight from start to finish. Owensboro trailed by just one after the first quarter, 14–13, and entered halftime down 24–23 in a back-and-forth first half where neither team could create separation. Every possession felt important, and the margin never stretched beyond a few points.
Grayson County found its edge in the third quarter. A strong stretch midway through the period helped the Lady Cougars outscore Owensboro 17–13, pushing the lead to five entering the fourth. That cushion proved critical.
The Lady Devils made their push late. Abby Sapp delivered a game-high 21 points, attacking offensively and keeping Owensboro within reach. Unique Carter-Swanagan added 16 points, continuing her steady presence at the point guard position. But each time Owensboro threatened, Grayson County answered, matching the Devils’ 17 fourth-quarter points with 18 of their own to close it out.

While the result favored the Lady Cougars, the night belonged to Carter-Swanagan for another reason. The senior guard surpassed 1,000 career points — a milestone that reflects years of production and leadership in a Lady Devils uniform.
After the game, she celebrated alongside her father, Ed Carter.
Owensboro falls to 6–17 on the season, while Grayson County improves to 18–7.
