Owensboro Puts Eight on the Board Ahead of District Tournament

OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro High School enters the postseason with momentum after putting together an eight-goal performance Tuesday night, shutting out McLean County 8-0 at the Owensboro High School Athletic Complex.
The Devils controlled the match offensively, finishing with eight goals and seven assists while keeping McLean County off the scoreboard.
Amelia Calhoun led the way with four goals, accounting for half of Owensboro’s total. Lily Nieman added two goals and two assists, while Alexandra Cecil scored twice.
The production was spread throughout the attack. Trinity Johnson recorded three assists, Ella Hall added two, and Nieman contributed two more as Owensboro consistently created opportunities around the McLean County goal.
McLean County goalkeeper Emily Howard faced a busy night, making 12 saves despite allowing eight goals. Her 12 stops kept the margin from growing even further as Owensboro continued to generate chances throughout the match.
For Owensboro, Hayley Sikes recorded the shutout in goal.
The result also gives the Devils an important confidence boost heading into the 9th District Tournament. Owensboro improves to 10-7-2 and will face Daviess County on Saturday afternoon for a chance to advance in the postseason.
McLean County falls to 8-7-2 and will have a few days to regroup before opening its own district tournament against Muhlenberg County on Monday.
With the postseason now here, Owensboro’s eight-goal performance provided a strong finish to the regular season and sent the Devils into Saturday’s district matchup with their offense clicking.
