Sjaavaag Leads the Way at Kentucky Wesleyan Senior Committee Charity 5K

Iver Sjaavaag leads the pack.

Kentucky Wesleyan College came alive Saturday morning as runners and community members gathered for the Kentucky Wesleyan Senior Committee Charity 5K. With cool temperatures and the rain holding off, 44 participants hit the streets around campus for a race that combined competition with purpose.

From the start, the front of the pack quickly established itself. Iver Sjaavaag set a strong pace and held the lead down the stretch, with Keaton Boling staying close behind and Finn Carroll finishing strongly to round out the top three overall. Among the women, Carley Davis pushed hard from the outset to take first among female finishers in 20:22, followed by Sadie Franklin in second and Skyler Grey in third.

Runners of all levels filled the streets around campus, many pushing themselves to personal bests, while others ran for fun or simply to support the cause. Friends and family lined the route, offering encouragement and cheers that kept energy high throughout the morning.

While the competition was exciting, the heart of the event went far beyond finishing times. Hosted by the Kentucky Wesleyan College Class of 2026, the 5K raised funds for two meaningful causes. Half of all funds raised will go directly to Children’s Cancer Research to help families avoid treatment‑related costs, while the other half will support the Class of 2026 Senior Gift, creating a lasting legacy on campus for future students.

With the support of sponsors River Valley Behavioral Health, German American Bank, and Owensboro Health, the Kentucky Wesleyan Senior Committee Charity 5K brought together community, competition, and purpose in a single morning.

Whether crossing the finish line first or simply participating, every runner played a part in a morning that showcased speed, spirit, and the impact of giving back—reminding everyone that sometimes the real victory is why you run, not just how fast.
