Julian Deals, Apollo Shuts Out Catholic to Punch Ticket to District Title Game

The postseason run continues for the Apollo High School softball team, which punched its way into the 9th District championship with a 4-0 shutout win over Owensboro Catholic High School on Monday, powered by a dominant two-way performance from Mollie Julian.
In a game delayed and stretched across two days, Apollo stayed locked in while Catholic couldn’t break through against elite pitching.
Julian controlled the game from the circle, striking out 10 over seven shutout innings while allowing just four hits and working out of the game’s only real threat without damage. When Catholic loaded the bases in the sixth inning, she shut the door with back-to-back outs to preserve the clean sheet.
But she didn’t just dominate in the circle—she decided the game at the plate too.
Julian finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including a key double that helped Apollo break open the scoring and set the tone early.
Apollo struck first in the second inning when Julian doubled in the game’s opening run. The Eagles added separation in the third, stringing together patient at-bats and timely contact. Tyler Hall delivered an RBI single, Liza Page worked a walk that forced in a run, and Julian followed again with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.
That was more than enough support.
While Catholic starter Ava Mudd kept the Lady Aces within striking distance early—striking out six over six innings—the offense never found rhythm against Julian’s command and Apollo’s clean defense.
Owensboro Catholic finished with just four hits, with Lily Logsdon, Raegan Leach, Taylor Clark, and Mudd each recording one. The Lady Aces’ best opportunity came in the sixth, but they were turned away empty-handed.
Apollo’s defense matched the pitching effort, playing error-free softball and turning a double play to erase any chance of momentum swings.
With the win, Apollo advances to the 9th District championship game, continuing a season that now includes a return to the district final stage for the first time since 2019 and a guaranteed spot in the 3rd Region Tournament.
Now the focus shifts to a rematch with Daviess County, but this time with a championship on the line.
