Apollo Sends Both Baseball and Softball to State After Regional Championship Wins

For most schools, sending one team to the state tournament is a season-defining accomplishment.

On Thursday night, Apollo High School did it twice.

Both the Apollo baseball and softball teams captured regional championships and earned trips to the KHSAA State Tournament, capping off a massive night for Apollo athletics.

The Eagles baseball team battled past Meade County 3-1 behind a dominant pitching performance from Ross Milburn, while the Apollo softball team edged Daviess County 2-1 behind a complete-game effort from Mollie Julian.

Two regional titles. Two state tournament appearances. One big night for Apollo athletics.

Baseball: Milburn Leads Apollo Past Meade County

Apollo baseball set the tone early and then leaned on pitching and defense the rest of the way to secure a 3-1 win over Meade County in the regional championship.

The Eagles jumped out quickly in the first inning, scoring all three of their runs. Jackson Carder drove in the opening run with an RBI single, and Jagger Pate added another RBI hit as Apollo capitalized on early opportunities to build a lead.

From there, Ross Milburn took control.

Milburn worked deep into the game, allowing just one run on six hits across 6.2 innings while striking out six and walking none. He consistently limited damage and kept Meade County from ever fully breaking through.

Apollo’s defense backed him with steady execution, including a key double play that helped preserve the lead as Meade County continued to threaten.

Ryleigh Logan led the offense with two hits, helping set the table in a game where early runs proved critical.

Once Apollo grabbed control in the first inning, they never let it go.

Softball: Julian Delivers in Tight Win Over Daviess County

Apollo softball followed a similar script: early offense, strong pitching, and steady defense in a 2-1 win over Daviess County.

The Eagles struck first in the second inning when Tyler Hall hit a solo home run to right field, giving Apollo a 1-0 lead and immediate momentum.

Apollo added another run in the third inning after Keelan Wettstain grounded into a fielder’s choice, bringing home Reice Coomes to extend the lead to 2-0.

That was all Mollie Julian needed in the circle.

Julian delivered a complete-game performance, allowing four hits and one run across seven innings while striking out eight and walking two. She worked through pressure situations and consistently limited Daviess County’s chances.

Daviess County cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth inning, but Apollo responded with clean defense and timely outs the rest of the way.

Arianna Ramirez led the offense with two hits in three at-bats from the leadoff spot, while Hall and Wettstain each drove in a run. Apollo also played a clean defensive game, finishing without an error.

Two Wins, One Night

Both games followed a similar formula: early execution, strong pitching, and defense under pressure.

What matters most is the outcome — two regional championships on the same night, and both teams moving on to the state tournament.

Now both Apollo baseball and softball head into the next round with momentum, confidence, and a clear standard set on the same field of pressure.
