OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro Catholic turned in a dominant offensive performance Friday night, defeating Daviess County 59-7 at Steele Stadium as both local teams looked to pick up their first win of the season.

The Aces wasted little time finding their rhythm, building a 37-0 advantage by the 9:36 mark of the second quarter.

Quarterback Dre’Mail Carothers led the way through the air, completing 17 of 18 passes for 284 yards and five touchdowns.

Owensboro Catholic continued to add to its lead before halftime. The Aces scored again with 3:33 remaining in the second quarter and converted the extra point to make it 43-0. A safety with 1:54 left in the half pushed the advantage to 45-0.

Daviess County continued to battle and finally broke through in the second half, finding the end zone with 11:47 remaining in the third quarter to put the Panthers on the board at 45-7.

Owensboro Catholic answered with a touchdown at the 7:55 mark, then added another with 1:48 remaining to close out the scoring at 59-7.

The Aces’ ground game also produced several big plays. Braylon Coots rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns, while Noah Grant added 92 yards and two touchdowns.

Through the air, Drew Miles had a big night with seven receptions for 193 yards and a touchdown. Grant added seven catches for 78 yards and a touchdown, while Coots caught four passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.

For Daviess County, getting on the scoreboard in the second half provided a bright spot in a difficult night against a high-scoring Catholic offense.

Owensboro Catholic moves to 1-1 with the win, while Daviess County falls to 0-2.

Both teams return to action next Friday.
