OWENSBORO, KY — Daviess County spent much of Thursday night controlling the ball. Once the Panthers found their finishing touch, they made it count.

Daviess County defeated Owensboro Catholic 2-0 at Deer Park Elementary Field, earning its second clean sheet of the season and adding another win to a strong start.

The Panthers controlled the majority of possession in the opening half but had difficulty turning that control into goals. That changed in the 33rd minute.

Junior Silas Goebel found the breakthrough, placing a shot into the bottom-right corner to give Daviess County a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers carried that advantage into halftime, then quickly added to it after the break.

In the 43rd minute, senior Avery Dilger delivered a corner into the box, where senior Ethan Dailey rose to head the ball into the net and make it 2-0.

From there, Daviess County’s defense protected the lead and kept Catholic off the scoreboard. Junior goalkeeper Harrison DiProssimo-Dunaway recorded his second clean sheet of the season.

The Panthers also gave valuable minutes to several underclassmen who normally see less playing time, adding another positive to a night that ended with Daviess County putting another win in the books.

Daviess County entered the match 6-2-2 and now moves forward with another strong result against a local opponent.

The Panthers will face their next major test Thursday, Sept. 10, when Owensboro High School comes to Deer Park Elementary Field for a 7 p.m. matchup.

Owensboro Catholic, which entered 5-3, will travel to Evansville Day School on Sept. 5 for a 4 p.m. game.
