OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro kept its strong run going Monday night, scoring three times in the first half before adding another goal after halftime in a 4-0 victory over Muhlenberg County at the Owensboro High School Athletic Complex.

The Devils wasted little time creating opportunities and eventually broke through with 31:45 remaining in the first half. Miles Morrison assisted Brian Payne, who finished for a 1-0 lead.

Payne struck again with 7:24 remaining in the half, this time converting off an assist from Patrick Alexander to give Owensboro a two-goal advantage.

Peter Mbayo added another before halftime, scoring with 2:06 left after Bilo Ekyochi provided the assist. Owensboro went into the break leading 3-0.

The Devils continued to generate chances after halftime, with Avidael Diaz scoring 6:37 into the second half on an assist from Filip Smekal.

Owensboro finished with a steady stream of shots throughout the match. Payne recorded five shots on goal in the first half and five more in the second, while Mbayo also had eight shots on goal combined between the two halves.

Japheti Bavento added five shots on goal in the second half, while Luke Wilborn, Kennedy Payne, Bilo Ekyochi and Filip Smekal also recorded multiple shots on goal after halftime.

The victory moved Owensboro to 13-1-1 on the season. Muhlenberg County fell to 7-7.

The Devils will travel to Bowling Green on Thursday, Sept. 24, for a 7:30 p.m. match at Bowling Green High School’s Pit Field. Muhlenberg County returns home Tuesday night to face Christian County at 7 p.m.
