OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro and Apollo entered Friday night with identical 3-2 records, but by the time the fourth quarter arrived, the Red Devils had turned the matchup into a runaway.

Owensboro scored in every quarter and used a big passing night from Tyson Biggs, timely defensive stops and two explosive special-teams plays to pull away for a 50-7 victory over Apollo at Rash Stadium.

The Red Devils led 6-0 after one quarter, then scored 20 points in the second to take a 26-0 advantage into halftime. A 10-point third quarter pushed the lead to 36-0 before both teams found the end zone in the fourth.

Biggs completed 19 of 28 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns, helping Owensboro pile up 332 passing yards and four touchdown passes overall. Kingston Dillard was his leading target, catching seven passes for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Dillard’s biggest impact came in the third quarter. After Gavin Walker broke loose for a 32-yard run to move the Red Devils into Apollo territory, Biggs connected with Dillard for 25 yards over two completions on the drive, including a 17-yard touchdown that made it 33-0 with 9:10 remaining in the third.

Jamil Waddy added two catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. His biggest play came early in the fourth quarter when he hauled in a 71-yard touchdown pass from the player listed as No. 77 “Blank Spot,” stretching Owensboro’s lead to 43-0.

The Red Devils also got contributions from several other parts of the offense. Adyson Thomas caught three passes for 42 yards and a touchdown, while Jauleon Bryant had two catches for 42 yards. Ty Ashley scored twice on the ground, and Walker contributed 51 rushing yards along with a 5-yard receiving touchdown.

Owensboro’s defense made sure Apollo never found a rhythm early.

Apollo reached the Red Devils’ 19-yard line on its opening possession, but Kobe Pullom brought down Maxwell Johnson for a 15-yard sack on fourth down, ending the threat.

Apollo reached the red zone again in the second quarter, driving to the Owensboro 10 before an incomplete pass on fourth down gave the ball back to the Red Devils. Later in the quarter, Apollo reached the Owensboro 7, but another fourth-down incompletion ended the drive.

Pullom and David Leishman each recorded a sack, while Tee Green intercepted Johnson in the third quarter. Owensboro finished with five tackles for loss and held Apollo scoreless through three quarters.

Apollo’s offense was led by Johnson, who completed 14 of 27 passes for 201 yards. Eli Williams caught five passes for 58 yards, while John Milburn had five receptions for 61 yards and added 23 rushing yards.

Milburn also accounted for Apollo’s lone touchdown.

After Owensboro opened the fourth quarter with Waddy’s 71-yard touchdown, Apollo finally put together a scoring drive. Johnson connected with Kaine Green for 31 yards to reach the Owensboro 9, then found Williams for eight yards to set up Milburn’s 2-yard touchdown run with 5:50 left.

Owensboro answered almost immediately.

On the ensuing kickoff, Tre Shemwell fielded the ball and raced 83 yards for a touchdown, pushing the lead back to 50-7. Shemwell finished with 89 all-purpose yards, including the kickoff return score.

Cooper Ellis added a 35-yard field goal in the third quarter and went 1-for-1 on field-goal attempts.

The victory moves Owensboro to 4-2 on the season, while Apollo falls to 3-3.

Both teams will be on the road next Friday. Owensboro travels to Marshall County for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Traylor Stadium, while Apollo visits Graves County for a 7 p.m. game at CORE Physical Therapy Stadium.
