Owensboro Volleyball Rolls Past Hancock County in Three Sets

HAWESVILLE, KY — Owensboro High School volleyball took control early Tuesday night and never gave Hancock County much room to respond, sweeping the host Hancock County 3-0 by scores of 25-11, 25-7 and 26-24.
The Devils were especially sharp through the first two sets, winning by a combined 50-18 before Hancock County pushed back in the third.
Ayrish Barksdale and Zoe Carter led Owensboro’s attack with 11 kills apiece, accounting for 22 of the team’s 32 kills. Anna Travis added three kills and finished with a team-high 21 assists.
Owensboro also received four assists from June Larsen and one from Bryanna Watkins as the Devils finished with 26 assists.
The serving game added another advantage. Travis recorded five aces, while Carsyn Cecil added three and Larsen had one, giving Owensboro nine aces for the match.
The Devils’ defense was active throughout the three-set victory, recording 29 digs and 17 total blocks. Cecil led the blocking effort with six total blocks, including four solo blocks and two block assists. Shelia Crowe added three total blocks, while Georgia Gabbert recorded four solo blocks.
Larsen led Owensboro with eight digs, while Travis added seven. Crowe finished with four digs and Macey Kahn had three.
Hancock County entered the match with a 6-15 record and falls to 6-16. Owensboro improves to 13-12 with the victory.
After controlling the first two sets, Owensboro had to finish the job in the third. Hancock County stayed within striking distance, but the Devils closed out the match 26-24 to complete the sweep.
Owensboro returns home Thursday night when it hosts McLean County at 6:30 p.m. in the Owensboro High School North Gym.
