Allie Marston Strikes Twice as Owensboro Catholic Claims District 9 Championship

OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro Catholic High School turned two goals from Allie Marston into a 2-0 victory over Owensboro High School on Monday evening, capturing the District 9 girls soccer championship at Apollo High School.
Marston scored once in each half, giving the Lady Aces the offense they needed to secure the district title. Behind her two-goal performance and a shutout from goalkeeper Felicity Payne, Owensboro Catholic finished the championship match without allowing the Owensboro Devils to find the scoreboard.
The result capped a postseason matchup between two teams that entered the night with winning records. Owensboro Catholic came in at 11-5, while Owensboro High School entered at 10-7-2.
Marston Opens the Scoring
Owensboro Catholic found its breakthrough in the first half when Marston carried the ball through the middle and finished to put the Lady Aces ahead 1-0.
The goal gave Catholic the advantage in a match where the opening score mattered. Owensboro needed to find a response, but the Devils were unable to get a goal past Payne, who recorded three saves in the shutout.
The first-half goal also gave Catholic a lead to protect as the match moved toward the break. With a district championship at stake, the Lady Aces had a chance to build on that advantage after halftime rather than having to chase the game.
Marston Delivers Again
Marston struck for the second time in the second half, again making her way through the middle to finish and extend Catholic’s lead to 2-0.
Her second goal gave Owensboro Catholic breathing room and completed the scoring. Marston accounted for both goals, finishing the match with four points.
The two goals came from similar attacking sequences, with Marston finding space through the middle to create the decisive moments. Her ability to finish those chances proved to be the difference in a championship match where Catholic needed only two goals to secure the win.
Payne and the Catholic Defense Complete the Shutout
While Marston supplied the goals, Payne and the Catholic defense made sure the lead held.
Payne recorded three saves and finished with a shutout, keeping Owensboro off the scoreboard. The Devils’ goalkeeper, Hayley Sikes, made four saves while allowing two goals.
Owensboro Catholic’s defensive performance meant Marston’s goals were enough to settle the championship. The Lady Aces controlled the result without needing a third goal, and the final whistle confirmed a 2-0 district title victory.
A District Championship for the Lady Aces
The win gave Owensboro Catholic the District 9 girls soccer championship and sent the Lady Aces into the regional tournament with the title secured.
Owensboro also advances to regionals after reaching the district championship match. For the Devils, Monday’s result ended their district title hopes, but the postseason continues with another opportunity ahead.

For Catholic, the championship was built on a clear formula: Marston finished twice, Payne handled the chances that came her way, and the defense kept the clean sheet. On a night when the margin for error was small, those performances were enough to bring home the district crown.
