CREVE COEUR, MO — Brescia University Women’s Soccer scored early, added another goal in the second half and finished with a shutout Tuesday, defeating Missouri Baptist 2-0 in Creve Coeur.

Maria Ferreira put the Bearcats on the board in the 13th minute, scoring her first goal of the season to give Brescia a 1-0 lead.

Missouri Baptist came close to answering later in the half. Addisyn Sopczak’s header in the 22nd minute struck the crossbar, and Laura Thompson followed with a save on Kate Jose’s shot moments later to keep the Bearcats in front.

Brescia continued to create chances before halftime, with Missouri Baptist goalkeeper Jordyn Maryas making several saves to keep the deficit at one.

The Bearcats added to their advantage early in the second half.

In the 61st minute, Kaja Zupanic found the net off an assist from Ana Victorica, pushing Brescia’s lead to 2-0.

Missouri Baptist continued to look for a response, but Thompson and the Brescia defense kept the shutout intact. Thompson made another save in the 71st minute as the Bearcats protected their two-goal advantage.

Brescia remained dangerous at the other end late in the match. Zupanic and Allana Colen Porto each forced additional saves from Maryas, while the Bearcats continued to pressure the Missouri Baptist defense through the closing minutes.

The win moves Brescia to 4-2-0 on the season, while Missouri Baptist falls to 1-3-0.

Brescia returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 8, traveling to St. Louis to face Harris-Stowe at 1 p.m. CDT.
