Owensboro, Ky. — Daviess County battled through five sets Tuesday night to open the 2026 volleyball season with a 3-2 district victory over Owensboro Catholic.

The Lady Panthers overcame an early deficit, falling 25-18 in the opening set, before answering with wins of 25-23 and 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead.

Catholic responded in the fourth set, winning 25-21 to force a decisive fifth set.

Daviess County closed out the match with a 15-11 victory in the final set, securing the season-opening win.

The match was played in front of a loud, split crowd at the Catholic gym as both teams battled through a back-and-forth district matchup.

The victory marked Daviess County’s second volleyball win over Owensboro Catholic since the 2022 season.

Daviess County will return to action Tuesday, Aug. 25, when the Lady Panthers host Owensboro.
