OWENSBORO, KY — Daviess County dropped the opening set Thursday night but answered by taking the next three, defeating Owensboro Catholic 3-1 at Daviess County High School.

Catholic took the first set 25-21, but Daviess County responded with a 25-20 win in the second before taking the third and fourth sets by identical 25-18 scores.

Haylee Clark led the Panthers offensively with 14 kills on 29 attacks, hitting .379 for the match. Kallie Stanley added 10 kills, while Reese Whiteside had nine and Stella Roberts finished with eight kills while hitting .467.

Daviess County’s attack became a major difference as the match progressed. The Panthers finished with 53 kills and a .307 hitting percentage, compared with 41 kills and a .130 percentage for Catholic.

Maddie Chinn also had an efficient night for Daviess County, recording six kills on nine attacks for a .556 hitting percentage. Jenna Lawson finished with 23 assists, while Taylor Powers added nine.

The Panthers also had plenty of production defensively. Lexi Jones recorded a team-high 27 digs, followed by Kyndal Murphy with 15 and Lawson with 10. Daviess County finished with 78 digs and seven total blocks, including four from Roberts.

Catholic was led by Quinn Best with 13 kills and 14 digs. Emmy Roberts added 10 kills, while Emma Castlen had six kills and Marilla Kanipe finished with five.

Payton Arnold led the Aces with 27 digs, while Aubrey Crowe had 23 assists and 13 digs. Catholic finished with 86 digs as a team.

The win moves Daviess County to 11-6 on the season, while Owensboro Catholic falls to 6-10.

Daviess County will play Saturday at the Southern Kentucky Slam at Allen County-Scottsville High School, with its next match scheduled for 9 a.m. on Court 3. Catholic will also play Saturday, traveling to Adair County for a 10 a.m. match at Lindsey Wilson College.
