OWENSBORO, KY — Kentucky Wesleyan battled back from an early deficit Thursday night, earning a 1-1 draw with Malone at Panther Field.

Malone took the lead in the 28th minute when Nayeli Cruz finished a pass from Emily Bayles to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0.

Kentucky Wesleyan created chances of its own during the opening half but entered halftime still trailing by one.

The Panthers continued to pressure Malone after the break, with Brooke Meeks and Haylie Panter putting shots on target early in the second half.

That pressure finally paid off in the 66th minute. Tynes found the back of the net from 20 yards out off an assist from Panter, tying the match at 1-1. It was Tynes’ first goal of the season.

Kentucky Wesleyan continued pushing for the go-ahead goal during the final 25 minutes, but Malone goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan made three second-half saves to keep the match level.

The Panthers finished with a 10-7 advantage in shots, including a 6-3 edge after halftime. Caleigh Meeks made two saves for Kentucky Wesleyan, while Henderhan finished with three for Malone.

The draw moved Kentucky Wesleyan to 0-6-2 overall and 0-2-2 in conference play, while Malone moved to 3-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.

Kentucky Wesleyan will celebrate Senior Day Saturday when the Panthers host Ohio Dominican at 10 a.m. CT at Panther Field.
