Greenwood Takes Both Varsity Team Titles at DC Classic

OWENSBORO, KY — Greenwood left the DC Classic with plenty to celebrate Saturday, claiming both varsity team championships after strong performances in the girls and boys 5K races at Yellow Creek Park.

The meet brought together runners from across the region for a full day of competition, but the varsity races featured some of the day’s closest team battles and several standout individual performances.

Greenwood’s girls set the tone first, placing three runners inside the top seven and getting all five scoring runners into the top 15. The Lady Gators finished with 37 points, well ahead of Fort Campbell’s 80 and Owensboro Catholic’s 89.

Fort Campbell’s Linden Pickler captured the girls individual championship, finishing the 5K in 19:06.5. Greenwood’s Allie Doran followed in second at 19:33.7, with teammate Charlotte Johnson taking third in 19:43.2.

Trigg County’s Veyda Grinols was fourth in 19:49.3, while South Warren’s Katelyn Best rounded out the top five in 19:58.7.

Greenwood’s team depth was the difference in the team race. After Doran and Johnson, Blaire Marr finished seventh in 20:21.5, Madison Hershberg was 12th in 20:48.3 and Sauyer Shirley placed 17th in 21:09.5.

Owensboro Catholic put together its own strong team performance to finish third.

Senior Anna Booker led the way for the Lady Aces, crossing the finish line ninth overall in 20:25.1. Charlie Reid followed in 16th at 21:08.3, Meredith Trayler was 18th in 21:21.1, Isabeth Osborne finished 30th in 22:19.9 and Mary Grace Thomas was 31st in the same time.

That gave Catholic five runners inside the top 31 and secured the third-place team finish.

Daviess County Finishes Second in Boys Race

The boys race featured another Greenwood team victory, but Daviess County made the Gators work for it.

Greenwood scored 36 points to win the boys varsity title, while Daviess County finished second with 50 points. Union County was third with 150.

Dawson Springs senior Easton Bourland won the individual race in 16:03.6, but Daviess County senior Judson Redfern was right behind him.

Redfern crossed second in 16:12.3, turning in the fastest local time of the day and helping the Panthers establish an early presence near the front of the field.

Daviess County’s strength came from its depth. Jordan Norris finished eighth in 16:59.6, Landon Thompson was 11th in 17:10.3, Jonah Murphy placed 16th in 17:21.0 and Camryn Edge finished 22nd in 17:55.4.

The Panthers had five runners across the line before 23rd place, with Joseph Cecil finishing 23rd in 18:00.1. Joseph Edge added a 33rd-place finish, while freshman Alexander Allen was 37th.

Greenwood countered with five runners inside the top 15.

Miles Goodrich finished third in 16:18.3, followed by Camden Goodrich in sixth at 16:46.6 and Kayson Clements in seventh at 16:48.0. Reed Johnson placed 12th in 17:10.4, and Nicholas Clark finished 15th in 17:20.2.

That group gave Greenwood enough separation to secure its second varsity championship of the morning.

Owensboro Catholic also had a runner inside the top 10, as senior Owen Brey finished 10th in 17:08.2. Simon Thompson placed 51st in 19:14.2, followed by John Wathen in 56th at 19:32.8.

A Strong Morning for Cross Country

With sunny skies and comfortable temperatures, runners had favorable conditions for the 5K races, but the competition remained the focus as teams battled for position throughout the course.

The DC Classic also included JV races, middle school competitions and elementary races, making it a full day of cross country at Yellow Creek Park.

Team awards were presented to the top three teams, while individual finishers were also recognized.

For Greenwood, the biggest takeaway was clear: its depth carried the Gators to championships on both sides.

For Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic, the meet provided strong performances against a competitive field, led by Redfern’s runner-up finish in the boys race and Booker’s ninth-place finish for the Catholic girls.

And with the season moving deeper into October, Saturday’s performances gave plenty of runners another opportunity to measure themselves against some of the region’s best.
