OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro and South Warren traded the lead Saturday night in a competitive matchup at the Owensboro High School Athletic Complex, with the Devils taking a 2-1 advantage in the second half before South Warren found a late equalizer to finish with a 2-2 draw.

Owensboro entered the night with a 10-1 record, while South Warren came in at 5-2-2. The matchup lived up to the records, with both teams finding the net twice and neither able to pull away.

South Warren opened the scoring with 23:07 remaining in the first half.

Owensboro responded late in the half. With 3:04 on the clock, sophomore Luke Wilborn tied the game at 1-1, with Peter Mbayo providing the assist.

The score remained tied heading into halftime.

The Devils then took their first lead of the night in the second half.

With 38:32 remaining, Brian Payne scored to put Owensboro ahead 2-1. Kennedy Payne picked up the assist.

Owensboro held the advantage until the closing minutes, when South Warren found the equalizer with 3:54 remaining.

Neither team could find a third goal before the final whistle, leaving the Devils with a 2-2 draw.

Mbayo was active throughout the night, finishing with seven shots on goal. Brian Payne and Valor Smith each recorded two, while Bilombele Ekyochi added one as Owensboro finished with 12 shots on goal.

South Warren finished with eight shots on goal.

The result moves Owensboro to 10-1-1 on the season. The Devils will now turn their attention to another local matchup, hosting Owensboro Catholic on Thursday, Sept. 17.

That game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Owensboro High School Athletic Complex.
