Peyton Reid Wins Girls Race as Owensboro Catholic Takes Team Title at Owensboro Invitational

OWENSBORO, KY — More than 20 high schools came together Saturday morning at Yellow Creek Park for the Owensboro Invitational, with runners competing in 5K varsity races before the meet continued with elementary and middle school competition.
The local schools made their presence felt at the front of the field.
Owensboro Catholic’s Peyton Reid won the varsity girls race in 18:49.0, finishing 8.9 seconds ahead of Apollo freshman Addy Alvey, who crossed the line in 18:57.9.
Reid’s individual victory also helped Owensboro Catholic claim the girls team championship. The Lady Aces scored 53 points, finishing ahead of Evansville Mater Dei with 76.
Catholic put five runners among the top 17. Ainsley Sutter finished eighth in 20:41.1, Caroline Wathen was 11th in 20:52.3, Anna Booker placed 16th in 21:17.4, and Cora Dickens finished 17th in 21:18.8.
Apollo also had several strong finishes near the front. Along with Alvey’s runner-up finish, Makaylee Denton placed ninth in 20:47.8, while Stella Clark finished 19th in 21:42.5.
The boys race saw another strong performance from Apollo. Axton Alvey finished third overall in 17:19.5, followed by teammates Grayson Turner in ninth at 17:43.9 and Colton Bivins in 13th at 18:35.9.
Apollo’s depth helped the Eagles finish second in the boys team standings with 73 points, behind Evansville Mater Dei’s 62.
Owensboro’s top boys finisher was Caleb Hayden, who placed 20th in 18:45.4. Owensboro Catholic was led by Simon Thompson, who finished 57th in 20:32.8.
The invitational featured a wide range of competition, with teams from western Kentucky and southern Indiana joining the local schools at Yellow Creek Park. The high school races were run over 5,000 meters, while the middle school races covered 3,000 meters and the elementary races covered 1,000 meters. The top two teams in each varsity race received trophies.
For the local teams, the morning ended with two individual top-two finishes, two team trophies and plenty of strong performances throughout the field.
