OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro had its back against the wall Thursday night.

After winning the opening set, the Lady Devils watched Owensboro Catholic take the next two, including a 25-13 third-set win that put Catholic one set away from a district victory.

Owensboro answered when it mattered most.

The Lady Devils pulled out a 25-23 fourth set to extend the match, then took control in the deciding set, winning 15-10 to complete the comeback and defeat Catholic 3-2 at the Owensboro Catholic High School Gym.

The match opened with Owensboro edging Catholic 27-25 before Catholic responded with a 25-22 win in the second set. Catholic then took the third 25-13, putting Owensboro in a must-win situation.

Owensboro delivered in the fourth, holding off Catholic 25-23 before closing out the fifth set.

Ayrish Barksdale leads Owensboro with 119 kills this season, while Carsyn Cecil has added 48 and Zoe Carter has 44. Anna Travis has recorded 139 assists, and June Larsen has 151 digs. The Lady Devils have 263 kills, 254 assists, 80 aces, 385 digs and 67 blocks this season.

Catholic was led by Quinn Best with 16 kills and 21 digs. Emma Castlen added seven kills, 14 digs and a block, while Emmy Roberts also had seven kills. Aubrey Crowe finished with 27 assists and nine digs, and Payton Arnold recorded 21 digs.

The win moves Owensboro to 7-6 on the season, while Owensboro Catholic moves to 2-5.
