Apollo Continues Strong Start With District Win Over Daviess County

 

OWENSBORO, KY — Apollo continued its dominant start to the season Thursday night, sweeping Daviess County 3-0 in a district matchup at the Apollo High School Gym.

The E-Gals took the opening set 25-17 before pulling away in the second set with a 25-15 victory.

Apollo closed out the match with a 25-18 win in the third set, completing the sweep.

Avery Gray led Apollo at the net with 18 kills and three blocks, while Keelan Wettstain, Savannah Denson and Ali Lawson each added six kills. Denson also recorded a block, while Lawson finished with two blocks.

Madalyn Roberts directed the Apollo offense with 36 assists.

Gray also contributed two service aces and six digs. Addyson Kirby and Sophia Mason each added an ace.

Jessie Pate led Apollo with 11 digs, while Wettstain had five, Gray had six, Lyla Fortener had six and Roberts added five.

The district victory moves Apollo to 16-1 on the season. Daviess County falls to 5-4.

Apollo will return to action Tuesday when the E-Gals host Owensboro Catholic at 7:30 p.m.

Daviess County will play Green County Saturday at 9 a.m. at Glasgow High School.
