GREENWOOD, KY — Peter Mbayo scored three goals Tuesday night as Owensboro High School continued its strong season with a 9-2 victory over Greenwood at the Greenwood High School Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.

Mbayo’s three-goal performance helped lead an Owensboro attack that produced nine goals on the night.

Bilombele Ekyochi also found the net three times, while Brian Payne, Valor Smith and Avidael Diaz Mazariegos each added a goal.

Japheti Bavento and Musa Iddi also contributed to the offensive effort, with Bavento recording two shots on goal and Iddi adding one.

The victory moves Owensboro to 9-1 on the season, while Greenwood falls to 1-5-2.

Mbayo continues to lead one of the area’s most productive attacks. Through 10 matches, the junior has scored 21 goals and added seven assists for 49 points.

As a team, Owensboro has now scored 61 goals through its first 11 matches while allowing 10.

Owensboro will return to the field Thursday when the Devils travel to Daviess County for a 7 p.m. match at Deer Park Elementary Field.

Greenwood will travel to South Warren Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. match.
