The 53rd Annual Owensboro Dust Bowl returned to Kendall-Perkins Park from July 17–25, bringing together basketball players, families, and fans for one of Owensboro’s longest-running summer traditions.

Throughout the tournament, teams competed in boys’ and girls’ divisions ranging from 3rd grade and under through high school, along with men’s and women’s open divisions. Both traditional 5-on-5 and 3-on-3 games gave players of all ages an opportunity to compete.

The tournament once again proved to be about more than basketball. Food trucks, music, and community activities helped create a family-friendly atmosphere throughout the nine-day event as spectators filled the park to cheer on their favorite teams.

Weather briefly interrupted play during the tournament, forcing games to be moved to Dugan Best Recreation Center until conditions improved.

Friday evening featured Owensboro Public Schools Night, where families gathered for an evening of fun, fellowship, and community. Free backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed while supplies lasted, helping local students prepare for the upcoming school year.

On Saturday evening, attendees enjoyed free pizza from 7–9 p.m., sponsored by Neighborhood Food Mart, adding another community-focused event to the tournament schedule.

The Dust Bowl also continued its tradition of investing in local students by presenting five $500 scholarships during the tournament. This year’s recipients were Caiden Tutt, Jaiden Griffin, Jordan Noah Stinnett, LaShay Vera, and Eliza Jobi Kline.

Now in its 53rd year, the Owensboro Dust Bowl continues to bring generations of players and fans together each summer while celebrating competition, community, and opportunities for local youth.
