Graham Robinson's Late Penalty Lifts Daviess County Past Apollo, 3-2

OWENSBORO, KY — Daviess County and Apollo traded leads in a back-and-forth district battle Thursday night, but the Panthers had the final answer.
With the match tied 2-2 late in regulation, Daviess County senior Graham Robinson converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute to give the Panthers a 3-2 victory at Apollo High School.
Daviess County opened the scoring in the 11th minute.
Senior Ethan Dailey delivered a low ball off a set piece following an Apollo foul, and senior Bennett Rhoads finished the opportunity to put the Panthers ahead 1-0.
Daviess County took that advantage into halftime.
Apollo came out of the break and pulled level, but the Panthers responded in the 63rd minute.
Dailey sent a ball to Robinson, who missed his initial attempt but stayed with the play, fought through two defenders and finished his second chance to put Daviess County back in front, 2-1.
The Eagles answered again in the 77th minute, bringing the match to 2-2.
Because the game was a district matchup, the teams could not finish in a tie. After regulation, the match moved into a golden-goal extra period, where the first team to score would win.
Daviess County got that goal.
Senior Silas Goebel drew a foul inside the penalty area, setting up Robinson for the decisive penalty kick. Robinson converted in the 88th minute to complete his second goal of the night and give the Panthers the 3-2 victory.
Apollo’s Luke Mattingly and Jeffrey Anderson each scored for the Eagles, with Anderson receiving an assist from Lwambo Ebuela and Mattingly assisted by Anderson.
Apollo goalkeeper Nolan Perkins finished with seven saves while allowing three goals.
The win moves Daviess County to 6-1-1 on the season, while Apollo falls to 3-4.
