OWENSBORO, KY — Apollo and Owensboro Catholic brought plenty of color and energy to Tuesday night’s district volleyball matchup, with Apollo fans filling the gym in blue and Catholic supporters showing up in green.

The atmosphere also had a bigger audience beyond the gym, with 102.7 The Game on hand to livestream the match.

Once play began, Apollo put together a steady performance from start to finish, taking the match 25-19, 25-12, 25-7 to improve to 17-1 on the season.

Avery Gray led the E-Gals with 11 kills and added nine digs and two aces. Keelan Wettstain and Savannah Denson each recorded four kills, with both players also contributing two blocks. Ali Lawson had three kills and a block, while Kinsley Jackson added three kills and a block.

Maddi Roberts helped keep Apollo’s offense moving with 20 assists and added three digs and an ace. Jessie Pate was active on both sides of the ball, finishing with 18 digs and five aces. Lyla Fortener added 11 digs, while Gray’s nine digs gave Apollo another strong defensive contribution.

Owensboro Catholic continued to compete throughout the match, with several players making an impact in different areas.

Emmy Roberts led the Lady Aces with seven kills. Quinn Best finished with three kills, 12 digs and two blocks, while Marilla Kanipe added two kills. Sadie Blair recorded a kill and two blocks.

Catholic also received strong defensive numbers from Payton Arnold, who led the team with 15 digs. Ryleigh Owen added 11 digs and seven assists, while Aubrey Crowe recorded eight digs and seven assists.

The district matchup gave both schools another opportunity to compete in front of their supporters, with the blue and green sections providing a clear backdrop throughout the night.

Apollo now stands at 17-1 and will travel to John Hardin Thursday night. Owensboro Catholic moves to 2-6 and will return to action Friday against Holy Cross of Louisville at the Owensboro Convention Center.
