OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro found itself two sets behind Daviess County, but the Devils didn’t let the match end there.

Owensboro won the next three sets to beat the Panthers 3-2 Tuesday night at Owensboro High School.

Daviess County took the opening set 28-26, then extended its lead with a 25-20 win in the second. The Panthers were in position to take control of the match, but Owensboro began to chip away in the third.

Daviess County led 11-5 before the Devils answered with an 8-1 run. Owensboro moved in front 13-12 and eventually took the set 25-20.

The fourth set was another close one. Daviess County held a 20-15 lead, but Owensboro closed the set with a 10-2 run to win 25-22 and force a deciding fifth set.

Owensboro took charge early in the final set, building an 8-2 advantage. The Devils finished off the comeback 15-8 to win the match.

Ayrish Barksdale led Owensboro with 24 kills, 17 digs and three blocks. Anna Travis finished with 37 assists, 12 digs, five kills, two blocks and an ace.

Carsyn Cecil added six kills, seven digs, six blocks and three aces, while June Larsen recorded a team-high 27 digs.

Daviess County got a big night from Reese Whiteside, who finished with 16 kills, 10 blocks and two aces. Lexi Jones had 30 digs, three aces and three blocks, and Maya Pollard added nine kills and 20 digs.

The win moves Owensboro to 9-7 on the season, while Daviess County falls to 9-6.

Both teams return to the court Sept. 22. Owensboro heads to Apollo , while Daviess County travels to Grayson County.
